Crummock to Kirkstile Inn

'Tell Me The Old Old Story...' By Roger Bye

These are words from an old hymn written in 1866 by Kate Hankey. She was associated with William Wilberforce, and a group of prominent evangelical Anglicans from the Clapham area. This group helped to establish the British and Foreign Bible Society, promoted the abolition of slavery, and was involved in improving the lot of England's working classes. She taught Bible stories to shop girls in London and visited the sick in local hospitals. She knew how to tell the extraordinary old old story to normal people!

The story hasn’t changed. In the words of the hymn – it is the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.

It is the same story that is changing our lives. It’s the same story that we are given to share with those who need to know where true hope can be found, today, whatever our need. The Good News of Jesus is as potent today as ever in transforming lives.

Each week we are learning together to take steps in sharing this story a bit more freely in natural ways.  This month we will have Graham and Charlotte Webb from Jubilee Church Liverpool with us over the weekend of 23-24th November. They will serve us well to help share this amazing story of God’s love to others. I believe it will be an important weekend for us all. Please do make it a priority and be praying that we will all be better equipped as storytellers!

Ukrainian Evening of Food and Culture By Alison Fielden

On 20th October, a fundraiser evening of Ukrainian food, drink and culture was held at South Street Community Rooms, to raise money for humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

Ukrainian evening at South Street Cockermouth

"It was a wonderful event. The people involved worked very hard to bring it all together. There was an interesting time learning about the customs and history of Ukraine, with a quiz, and also an exhibition of Ukrainian artefacts. We were treated to some very tasty food, including Borscht, dumplings, and pancakes. It was very emotional when the Ukrainian ladies sang their national anthem and we were entertained with more Ukrainian songs. It was quite a scene as they were all beautifully dressed in traditional costumes. They even did a lovely dance for us, which I believe is traditionally performed at weddings. (See photo)

All in all, the evening was very enjoyable, informative and  lots of money was raised for humanitarian needs in Ukraine. Well done to all the team!"
